Scroll’s The Latest brings readers the top news in an elegant, closely curated newsfeed. We are looking for a well-informed and talented early-career journalist with very strong writing and editing skills to join us.
The candidate will be responsible for:
Identifying and curating the top news stories across various sections, such as politics, regional news, business/finance, international, features, and so on.
Writing and editing very quick, clean and very balanced copy under time constraints.
Coordinating stories with senior copy editors, which includes assigning and editing when necessary.
Responding quickly to the news and to other Scroll teams as events change and stories develop.
Managing aspects of production, such as sourcing images and social media elements, along with using appropriate SEO keywords.
Being able to sift through biases in reporting while identifying, writing, and editing copies.
A candidate should:
Be an early-career journalist with two to three years of experience on a news desk.
Have impeccable writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Possess a knowledge of news wire services and social media channels.
Have a general grasp of a cross-section of news besides just politics – such as business, international, etc.
Candidates who can read and write southern Indian languages and those from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.
